The U.S Coast Guard has yet to approve a salvage plan from Ingram Barge Company – the company that lost two of its barges on Friday in the Ohio River. The barges are still at the bottom of the river.
Coast Guard spokesperson John Adkins says dive teams are working today to get more information for the salvage plan.
“Once we get the determination or feedback from the dive operation, that’ll give us a better understanding of what shape the barges are in in their sunken status, and that’ll give us a chance to look and see if we need to change our plan on how we’re going to salvage the vessels,” he said.
Adkins says the salvage plan could be approved and put into effect as early as tomorrow. From the time it starts, he says the salvage plan could take seven to ten days to carry out.
