by Rick Howlett on May 15, 2008

The University of Louisville has announced plans to sell lower-level club seats for basketball games in the new downtown arena.

The U of L mens and women’s basketball teams will be the arena’s primary tenants.

It’s not scheduled to open until November of 2010, but U of L officials say now that the bonding mechanism for the facility is in place, they want to move ahead with some season ticket sales.

Associate Athletic Director for Development Gary Friedman  says the 2,100 lower level club seats will be offered to season ticket holdersin the Cards’ current home, Freedom Hall.

Freedman would not disclose a price range, saying only that the cost will be determined by a point system.

“You get points for how long you’ve had season tickets, how long you’ve been donating, the number of years you’ve been involved with the program, certainly the donation level that you’re at, those type of things,” he said.

Friedman says pricing structures for the other seats in the new arena have not been set.

The new facility at 2nd and Main Streets will have a seating capacity of 22,000.
