EON-US CEO Says Coal Will Remain Dominant

by Gabe Bullard on February 28, 2008

Coal will likely remain Kentucky’s primary power source for the next few decades, according to the chief executive officer of Louisville-based EON-US.

Vic Staffieri spoke to the Louisville Downtown Rotary Thursday. He outlined plans to build more efficient coal-burning plants across Kentucky. He also said nuclear energy will be important in the future, but he doesn’t think it’s economically feasible for his company at this time.

“There’s about 8 or 9 companies that have applied for licenses but there’s been no shovels in the ground yet and there won’t be until there’s some assurance there’ll be recovery over time of the investments,” Staffieri said.

EON-US is the parent company of Louisville Gas and Electric and Kentucky Utilities.
